Linda Louise "Lindy" Smith, 53, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away in Decatur, Georgia, on Sunday, the 7th of December 2014, after a five-year struggle with breast cancer.
Lindy was a vibrant woman known for spreading cheer and kindness. She was particularly noted for her beautiful alto singing voice. Lindy was born August 25, 1961, in Gainesville, Georgia, to Franklin L. & Mabel (Miles) Mathis. She grew up in Gillsville, Georgia. After graduating from East Hall High School, she went to Gainesville Junior College and worked at The [Gainesville, Ga.] Times as a copy editor. She was a summer missionary in Oregon.
She eventually came to the Atlanta, Georgia, area. She worked at Equifax and Future Security. She married Curtis M. Smith on 18 Jun 1988 and lived the remainder of her 26+ years of life with him in Lawrenceville, Georgia. During this time she also worked for Clairmont Hills Weekday Minsitries as a preschool music teacher and the Gwinnett County Board of Elections. She had dedicated her life to the Lord and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church [in Snellville, Georgia].
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Mrs. George (Shelby) Pace. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Luke M. Smith of Athens, Georgia, and Paul F. Smith of Statesboro, Georgia; her sister, Mrs. Jimmy (Judy) Thomas of Tucker, Georgia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration service of her life shall take place Thursday, December 11, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Snellville, Georgia, 3 pm; the family will receive visitors during the hour immediately prior (from 2-3 pm). Also, on Saturday December 13, at Brewer Lake Baptist Church in Day, Florida, there shall be another celebation service at 11 Similarly, the family will receive visitors during the hour beforehand (10-11 am). Interment will immediately follow the service at the Day Cemetery. Lindy had indicated she would like people to wear bright clothes to the celebration service.
In lieu of funeral flowers, Lindy requested that you give flowers to your family and loved ones still living or give a memorial gift to Mount Zion Baptist Church, Samaritan's Purse, or unto the poor.
