I used to go to Oak Hill Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I first went there after the passing away of my mother-in-law in 2001, and there I found a loving group of people worshipping God and instilling joy and cheer at a time I needed to override the stress and sadness in my life. They were a church filled with lots of people eager to share and live according to God's precepts.
One of the chief ministries I was involved in was teaching classes in conversational English as a second language to those in the community who came from various backgrounds and wanted to learn to speak English and assimilate into American society.
Alas, the last gathering of Oak Hill Baptist Church was Sunday, 22 December 2013, after which the church was assimilated by another church. I now (as of 2014) attend Mount Zion Baptist Church in Snellville, Georgia.
The site of the old Oak Hill Baptist Church building was at the interesction of New Hope Road and Bramlett Shoals Road southeast of downtown Lawrenceville. On that site now is a sign that says "Grace - New Hope".
This church building was completed, and at the direction of the pastor, we ceremoniously opened the church by walking around it seven times as we prayed, thanked God, celebrated, and, at the end of the seventh lap, I blew a loud and long blast on a ram's horn, hoping that God did not interpret that as a request to repeat the incident around the walls of Jericho.
By the way, if you look at the building now, the cross at the top of the steeple (visible in my picture if you look closely enough) is now missing and has been for probably a good five years.
