Americans enliven English classes

Skit about parking ticket and getting lost in Rudolstadt

Rudolstadt (kat). Last week, a group from metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, came to Rudolstadt through a partnership exchange programme between the Evangelical Free Church and Baptists in America [SBC]. This is the second group to come as a part of the exchange.

During their programme "English Live," the Americans visited three different schools: viz., our two high-school campuses and also the high school in Bad Blankenburg. They tried to enliven the foreign-language classes, especially English classes and to arrange, together with the students, fun and interest in languages.

Not only did they just visit schools, they also held "open afternoons," where interested Rudolstadters could go and talk with the American guests over a cup of tea.

To satisfy the interest of many, they held an American-style evening where there was typical American food and drinks. You could also chat with the Americans, and many conversations led to some really good friendships with the Georgians.

The highlight of the evening was the skit put on by the Americans. It was about the difficulties they had on their way to the church they were staying in.

It all started at the Frankfurt airport where they had to drive over troublesome streets and freeways. After a couple of hours, they finally arrived in the maze of streets in Rudolstadt.

In Rudolstadt, they had a lot of bad luck, because parking illegally does not come cheap. After they got their first ticket in Germany, the real odyssey through Rudolstadt began.

The incomprehensible directions of the local folks were not too helpful.

The Americans recognised that not everybody speaks English, but, if so, the trip would have only taken a couple of hours.
