This is a translation of the original German news article which appeared in the Neue Saale-Zeitung/Rudolstadt, 22 August 1995; 44th year, Number 195.
Up until dusk, archers shot their arrows upon the target to win the goblet of the regional archery mastery. When the targetmeister Reinhard Saule opened the competition and shot against Volker Spielmann, the audience was quite slim.
But little by little, a crowd gathered to observe the competitors. Most of them were electricians.
One of the participants was an American, Mr. Curtis Smith from the U.S. state Georgia, who is staying with other Americans in the Baptist church of Rudolstadt.
With 50 points, he was the best archer for a long time. But, alas, he has to travel home before the finals on Sunday, so the moderator gave him documents certifying the 33-year-old as a successful participant.
