The skillful vie with speedy arrows for archery honours

Archery competition is to become tradition

The first archery competition determining the King Archer was held Monday evening, when it was announced that the meet shall become a tradition of the Rudolstadt Vogelschiessen.

The winner was Marko Gentsch with 51 points followed by Sven Stempel with 49 points and Detler Schubert with 48 points. The best and most distant guest archer was the American Curtis Smith from Georgia, U.S.A.

The bow and arrow are not for men only, proven by Gaby Moeslein of the Koenitz archery guild showing novice archers how to use the weapons.

The best female participant was Yvette Verden from the Pörz Team, with 34 points.

The festival host, Volker Spielman, and the targetmeister Reinhard Saule, shooting against each other trying to get those ten arrows in the bull's eye, both qualified for the final this upcoming Sunday.

This year's Bird King had a bit of bad luck. With a mere 7 points he showed that he is far better shooting with the crossbow than with the longbow.

Other contestants include brothers Gustav & Rudolf Meyer and, Karl-Heinz Feuerstein, the sole archer from the town council.
