Christmas Ponderings (A.D. 2022)

Oh, Christmas time is coming soon; excitement fills the air!
We celebrate the birth of Christ, our loving precious Lord
Who came to earth to find the lost in sin and bleak despair
And save them; let them be to Father God restored.

Elation in the hearts of men abounds with great content,
For God so loved the world, he sent us Jesus who could show
The way to live and flourish in our Maker’s wise intent,
And seek us out and save us from our self-corrupting woe.

Among the beasts of Bethlehem is where God saw it fit
For Christ the King of all the cosmos come to us on earth,
Alongside paths we travel in our life to benefit
And lift us up through lovingkindness, bringing holy mirth.

An angel in the night sky said to shepherds in the field,
“Do not be scared because, you see, I bring to you glad news
of great delight to all. In David’s City, it’s revealed,
Today is born a Saviour, Christ the Lord. Let me give you clues:

“The Baby’s wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a trough.”
Then other angels joined to sing a song of heaven’s praise
“All glory be to God in the highest,” starting off,
“On earth be peace, good hope for men” as the shepherds stood agaze.

The Shepherds hurried in to town to see the holy Child,
And, sure enough, they found him as the angel had disclosed.
With much excitement and a fervour seeming almost wild,
They did make known these happenings; their praise was well exposed.

We hope you have a happy time rememb’ring Jesus’ birth
And sharing time with precious friends and kin, devoid of strife.
The biggest, best surprise to have is finding your truth worth
So great the Lord did send his Son to give eternal life.
