The Song of the Ten Commandments

Note: This song should be considered a work in progress. I know that the metre is not consistent in all verses and that there are a few other technical problems. I also want to put in the original wording of the Ten Commandments (in Hebrew). The next time you come and look at this, it may be changed around some. -- Curtis

The Song The Commandments
I. Is your god the Flor'da Gators?
Is your god the Backstreet Boys?
Is your god the Pokémutators?
Is your god your grown-up toys?
What do you worship? Whom do you praise?
Where do you spend your money and days?
Do you heed the Lord's Commandments?
Won't you try and learn his Ways?
I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
II. All the world was well created
By our Lord for us to see.
We don't need things duplicated;
God's true Glory--let it be.
Why should you worship fading pictures?
Let's praise the Lord for his real Masterpiece!
Although we're in a media culture,
Skip the image; claim God's Peace.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
III. Some pretend to be God's discloser,
Claiming God said something cool.
But they've made it up--what a poser!
Can't they see they're such a fool!
Use the Lord's Name for his glory and honour!
Don't use it when you hate or you lie.
Lord, Jehovah, Yahweh, I AM,
Your great Name we glorify.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
IV. God created earth and heaven.
In six days he worked his best.
He took rest day number seven,
Made the special day that's blest.
Let us work six days, let's be productive,
But take a rest on the last day each week.
Jesus rested for sabbath,
All alive at first of week.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made the heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
V. As a son or as a daughter,
Mom and Dad seem mighty mean
When they tell us things we ought to,
Such as keeping our rooms clean.
Some day we'll figure out how they knew how
Doing those things were things for our growth.
Let us heed the mighty wisdom
Of our Dad and Mother both.
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
VI. Even though we hear it clearly,
"Do not murder anyone,"
We should always hold it dearly
In our hearts where it may run.
We need to make sure we're never angered
That we might even think we might kill.
"Be ye kind one unto another";
That instruction let us fill.
Thou shalt not kill.
VII. When a man does take a woman,
And he'll have her for his wife,
He should love and only come in
Her bedchamber all his life.
Stealing another's woman is evil,
Don't even think of her in your arms.
Love your wife and teach her God's way;
Peace, affection are her charms.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
VIII. Good men work, and use their labour
To produce and make good things.
Would you like it if your neighbour
Stole your tools and food and rings?
If you do steal, you teach theft to others;
Then the whole country soon falls apart.
Do not take what is another's;
Work to live; yes, do your part.
Thou shalt not steal.
IX. Sometimes when we get embarrassed,
When we're caught in our own sin,
We don't act just quite the fairest:
On some others blame we pin.
What are we doing? How can we stop it?
Let's tell the truth and don't lie at all.
Gossip never is a good word;
Stop it, lest your neighbour fall.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
X. God has given you a blessing;
Praise the Lord for all your stuff.
Coveting is just depressing,
Making your goods nev'r enough.
Crave for the things God promises to you:
Wisdom and Knowledge, his great Strength.
Please remember, keep God's Edicts
So you'll have a life of length.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
